Elmore County has been placed under a Winter Storm Warning as of 4:14 p.m. this afternoon. Below is the Winter Storm Warning issued by the NWS Office in Birmingham. We have also been included in a Civil Emergency Message to assist in disseminating the Impassable Travel Advisory.

…ACCUMULATING SNOW WILL CONTINUE INTO THE OVERNIGHT HOURS…
.Cold air moving in from the west and northwest will keep
temperatures mainly in the 30s. These temperatures will begin
falling after the sun sets. Snow accumulations have been
experienced across much of Central Alabama. The snow will
continue into the overnight hours, ending early Saturday morning
from west to east.

…WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 AM CST SATURDAY…
* WHAT…Snow continues. Plan on difficult travel conditions,
including during the evening commute into the overnight hours.
Total snow accumulations of 5 inches will be common, with
higher totals up to 10 inches in the higher terrain in east
central Alabama. Most of the accumulations will on be grassy
and elevated surfaces, but some roadways will become covered.
* WHERE…Chambers, Dallas, Autauga and Elmore Counties.
* WHEN…Until 7 AM CST Saturday.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Be prepared for significant reductions in
visibility at times and hazardous driving conditions. Be
especially careful as trees, limbs and power lines may come
down due to the weight of the snow.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
A Winter Storm Warning for wet snow means severe winter weather
conditions are occurring. If you must travel, keep an extra
flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an
emergency.
