Tricky Weather Forecast for Late Week-Winter Weather Possible for Elmore County

2017-01-04  3:45:43 PM   Rain is forecasted for our area beginning early Friday. There is a potential for wintry weather Friday into Saturday. According to the National Weather Service WFO in Birmingham winter weather (snow, sleet or freezing rain) could impact portions of central Alabama as early as 7 AM Friday morning through as late as noon on Saturday. Confidence in winter weather impacts for Friday and Saturday have increased but there are still many uncertainties in timing and the type of precipitation that we will see in Elmore County. The probability of freezing rain is low, but not zero. Below is the latest graphic issued by the NWS in Birmingham.

Weather events involving the potential for winter weather are the most difficult for forecasters to predict, so please monitor the forecast and conditions very closely. We could see significant winter weather impacts or we may only see rainfall. At this point, it is more of a wait and see game, but we need to be prepared with our winter weather plans, just in case.

We will have a webinar with the National Weather Service tomorrow (5 Jan 2017) and will post the update to our website and social media sites.
