Posted at 8:45 a.m. – Elmore County remains under a slight risk for severe weather for today, Thursday, March 24. According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, there is a risk for severe thunderstorms today across all of central Alabama, mainly in the afternoon, evening and early night time hours. A cold front will push through the area this afternoon. Thunderstorms will increase in coverage and intensity during the day. Look for cloudy skies and warmer conditions with highs in the 70s. Strong to severe storms are possible along and ahead of an approaching frontal system. All modes of severe weather are possible including damaging winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes. Below is an updated graphic provided by the NWS office in Birmingham that depicts the threat area, timing and type of hazards we could see in central Alabama. The timing may be updated some, so watch for changes. This will most likely be the last email update we send out.
