Slight Risk for Severe Weather Potential for this Sunday, April 19th

Just a quick update on the threat  for severe weather for this weekend.  The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has Elmore County located within a Slight Risk area for severe weather for Sunday into Monday. Below is the Hazardous Weather Outlook issued by the NWS Weather Forecast Office in Birmingham. Also below you will find a couple of graphics from the NWS showing timing and threat information for our area for Sunday at this time. According to the NWS, the forecast is rather uncertain, but they are expecting a threat for severe storms with damaging winds and large hail as the primary threats, though tornadoes cannot totally be ruled out. This threat may begin in the West around 11 PM Sunday and continue through 6 AM Monday in the East.

DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN…SUNDAY THROUGH FRIDAY.

SUNDAY EVENING AND OVERNIGHT SUNDAY NIGHT…ANOTHER ROUND OF THUNDERSTORMS IS EXPECTED TO PUSH INTO CENTRAL ALABAMA. THIS ROUND OF STORMS MAY ALSO BE ACCOMPANIED BY DAMAGING WINDS AND LARGE HAIL…WITH THE ADDED THREAT OF TORNADOES. THE TIME OF THE GREATEST THREAT IS FROM 9 PM SUNDAY EVENING TO 6 AM MONDAY MORNING.

Our office will continue to monitor the weather conditions and will email an update on expected severe weather as needed. Again, this is not expected to be a widespread severe weather event. We are just trying to make sure that those who may be called on, should the threat increase, are aware of the potential.
