Severe weather threat for tonight into early Saturday (April 6th through early April 7th, 2018) (1)

Posted as of 8:30 a.m. on 4/6/2018 – According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Weather Forecast Office in Birmingham, a line of showers and storms will move through central Alabama tonight into Saturday morning. At this time, the most likely timeframe Elmore County may see severe weather is between 3 AM and 9 AM. The main concerns will be damaging winds, but a brief tornado or two cannot be ruled out. Below is the latest Hazardous Weather Outlook issued by the NWS along with a graphic describing the severe weather impacts that we may see along with the timeframes of when we will likely see the weather move through. This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for the counties served by the National Weather Service office in Birmingham.

 

.DAY ONE…Today and Tonight.

 

There is a low confidence threat for severe storms after 10 PM tonight.

The threat area is generally along and south of a line from Carrollton, to Tuscaloosa, to Calera, to Alexander City, to Lafayette. The main threat is damaging straight line winds, but a brief tornado cannot be ruled out along and south of a line from Geiger, to Maplesville, to Phenix City.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN…Saturday through Thursday.

There is a low confidence threat for severe storms through 9 am Saturday for areas south of I-85 and east of I-65. The main threat is damaging straight line winds, but a brief tornado cannot be ruled out.

Another round of cold weather Saturday night into Sunday morning.

Near or below freezing temperatures are possible across the northern one-third of Central Alabama.

Activation of storm spotters and emergency management may be needed tonight and Saturday morning.
