Limited severe weather threat for today – Elevated threat over the upcoming weekend

The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has Elmore County in a Marginal threat area for severe weather today.  According to the National Weather Service WFO in Birmingham, there is a limited threat for severe storms this afternoon and into this evening across all of Central Alabama. As we see  a broad band of showers move through our area we could see an embedded isolated thunderstorm. A brief tornado & isolated damaging winds are possible. This is a low-end, marginal threat at this time. At this time, the greatest chance for severe weather today for Elmore County is late afternoon through midnight.

There is an elevated threat for severe storms beginning late Friday night and continuing into Sunday morning. Large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes appear possible. Multiple rounds of storms are possible over the weekend. The timing of each round is still uncertain. We will send out additional updates on the timing of this threat as we receive them from the NWS.

Below is the Hazardous Weather Outlook issued by the NWS and a couple of graphics issued by the NWS that describe the severe weather threat over the next few days. Stay tuned for additional updates and please watch our website at www.elmorecoema.com  and social media posts for all updates regarding updated weather information, road closures, and other hazards, etc.
