The following road crossings will be closed starting Monday, March 6, 2017. Each road crossings will be closed for 2 to 4 days at a time. The work will begin at 6:00 a.m. and end at 5:00 p.m. daily, Monday – Thursday. At night the crossings will be temporarily open for resident access only. The schedule is as follows:

Outdoor Warning Siren System Test on Mar 1, 2017 Postponed Due to Inclement Weather

02/28/2017 3:41:20 PM  Please be advised that the Elmore County EMA will postpone the monthly test of the All-Hazards Outdoor Warning Siren System, scheduled for March 1, 2017 (first Wednesday of the month), due to the possibility of severe weather late tomorrow afternoon into the evening hours. No sirens will be tested tomorrow in Elmore County. The next test of the All-Hazards Outdoor Warning Siren System is scheduled for March 8, 2017.

the National Weather Service (NWS), Weather Forecast Office, Birmingham,

will be conducting a FREE  

SKYWARN Basic Storm Spotter Class

April 8, 2017

from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

 Registration is required. Call EMA at 334-567-6451 to register. 

Anyone age 12 and older may attend. A minimum of 25 participants is required to conduct this class. 

This class will be held inside the main entrance to Wetumpka High School, in the Commons Area.

The Elmore County ARES is primarily tasked with communications support for

Elmore County Emergency Management Agency (EMA).

The ECARS is tasked with the promotion and education of the amateur radio craft.

Both groups meet on the second Tuesday of the month

(Feb 2017 meeting was held on 1st Tuesday due to Valentine’s Day)

2017 Severe Weather Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday, Feb 24-26

2017 Severe Weather Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday Set for Feb, 24-26

According to the Alabama Department of Revenue, Alabama will hold its sixth annual Severe Weather Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday, beginning Friday, February 24, 2017 at 12:10 a.m. and ending Sunday, February 26, 2017 at 12 midnight, giving shoppers the opportunity to purchase certain severe weather preparedness items free of state sales tax. Local sales tax may apply.

Alabamians are encouraged to purchase/restock emergency supplies for their homes, workplaces and vehicles during this three-day tax holiday. Certain emergency preparedness items will be exempt from the state’s 4-percent state sales tax, and in some cities and counties, local taxes are waived on those items as well. Up to a 10-percent savings is possible in some locations.

Of interest to Elmore County citizens: As of February 3, 2017, the following localities are identified as participating in this sales tax holiday:

Results from the National Weather Service Storm Survey issued 1/25/2017

Elmore County was affected by three tornadoes on Saturday, January 21, 2017.

The Wetumpka (downtown) and Willow Springs Road tornadoes were each rated “EF-1”. The Emerald Mountain Christian School tornado was rated “EF-0”.

NWS Surveying Elmore County Storm Damages This A.M. 1/24/2017

8:43:26 AM   National Weather Service (NWS) Weather Forecast Office Birmingham, Meteorologist in Charge John De Block, accompanied by Senior Meteorologist Mary Keiser, is in Elmore County this morning to survey storm damages from this weekend’s severe storms. Surveys are conducted to determine, among other things, whether storm damages are caused by straight line winds or tornadoes. Final determinations from the NWS Survey will be posted on EMA’s website once they are made available to this office.

If anyone has UNREPORTED storm damages, please contact the Elmore County EMA As Soon As Possible (ASAP) at 334-567-6451 so that those damages may be included in this storm report!
