01/21/2017  3:53:38 PM  The Storm Prediction Center has placed Elmore County under a MODERATE Risk for severe weather with all modes of severe weather being possible to include strong tornadoes, damaging winds and large hail. This increase in threat level is an increase from earlier this morning.

Below is the updated Hazardous Weather Outlook (HWO) issued by the NWS and a graphic that shows the updated threat levels and timing of when the threats will likely impact Elmore County.

SEVERE STORMS ARE POSSIBLE TONIGHT ACROSS ALL OF CENTRAL ALABAMA, AS EARLY AS 9PM IN THE SOUTHWEST AND AS LATE AS 6AM IN THE NORTHEAST. ALL MODES OF SEVERE WEATHER ARE POSSIBLE INCLUDING DAMAGING STRAIGHT LINE WINDS, LARGE HAIL, AND TORNADOES. THE HIGHEST THREAT FOR SEVERE STORM IMPACTS IS SOUTH OF A LINE FROM MYRTLEWOOD TO SELMA TO LANETT.

 .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN…SUNDAY THROUGH FRIDAY.

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued Tornado Watch #11 until 11:00 a.m. for Elmore County! 

Update as of 6:30 p.m. on 1/20/2017 – 2 rounds of severe weather possible for Elmore County this weekend January 21 -22, 2017.

According to the National Weather Service WFO in Birmingham, there is an elevated threat for severe storms tomorrow morning (Saturday, January 20, 2017) for Elmore County and there is a lesser threat for severe storms early Sunday morning. The first round of severe weather will likely be moving into Central Alabama in the early morning hours Saturday (possibly 3:00 to 4:00 a.m.). This round of storms will be very fast moving and all modes of severe weather are possible to include hail, high winds and tornadoes. The NWS highlighted the potential for damages due to the high wind threat for this round of storms. This first round of storms will likely be out of our area by mid-day and much of the afternoon should be clear. The second round of severe weather will be possible after midnight Saturday night. However, there is a lot of uncertainty in the forecast for the severe threat Sunday morning and how much development of storm activity we may or may not have. At this time the primary threat that the NWS is mentioning for the second round of severe weather is a hail threat. This second round of severe weather is expected to be out of our area by mid-day Sunday. Please stay tuned to the forecast for Sunday as there may be changes to the threat of severe weather on Sunday.

WINDS, BUT AN ISOLATED TORNADO IS ALSO POSSIBLE.

The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has Elmore County in a Marginal threat area for severe weather today.  According to the National Weather Service WFO in Birmingham, there is a limited threat for severe storms this afternoon and into this evening across all of Central Alabama. As we see  a broad band of showers move through our area we could see an embedded isolated thunderstorm. A brief tornado & isolated damaging winds are possible. This is a low-end, marginal threat at this time. At this time, the greatest chance for severe weather today for Elmore County is late afternoon through midnight.

There is an elevated threat for severe storms beginning late Friday night and continuing into Sunday morning. Large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes appear possible. Multiple rounds of storms are possible over the weekend. The timing of each round is still uncertain. We will send out additional updates on the timing of this threat as we receive them from the NWS.

AREAS OF DENSE FOG ACROSS THE SOUTHEASTERN COUNTIES THROUGH 9 AM.

THERE IS A LIMITED THREAT FOR DAMAGING WINDS AND A BRIEF TORNADO
ACROSS ALL OF CENTRAL ALABAMA THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. THE
THREAT COULD BEGIN IN WEST ALABAMA AS EARLY AS 2 PM AND CONTINUE
THROUGH MIDNIGHT ACROSS EAST ALABAMA.
.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN…FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY.

FOR THE PERIOD FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING, THERE IS A
THREAT FOR LARGE HAIL, DAMAGING WINDS AND TORNADOES ACROSS ALL OF
CENTRAL ALABAMA. AT THIS TIME THE GREATEST CHANCE FOR SEVERE
WEATHER APPEARS TO BE ACROSS THE SOUTHERN HALF OF CENTRAL ALABAMA.
THERE COULD BE MULTIPLE ROUNDS OF STORMS, AND TIMING IS STILL
UNCERTAIN AT THIS TIME.

01/08/201711:18:28 Although there are currently no reportable situations in Elmore County, the Elmore County EMA encourages everyone to “Be Ready!”

01/07/2017 1:47:38 PM  The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a Hard Freeze Warning for our area from 9 PM this evening until 10 AM Sunday morning (Jan 8th). Temperatures are expected to be in the mid-teens overnight in Elmore County.

IMPACTS:  These frigid temperatures could cause pipes to burst. Be sure to check on your neighbors and pets and prepare for the cold. Also, while roads and bridges in Elmore County are open and passable, please keep in mind that any isolated areas of drainage or runoff onto roadways from recent rains will freeze and cause icy patches, creating hazardous driving conditions.      

Note:  If you plan on travelling, the NWS says numerous broadcast media and emergency management officials report widespread icy conditions remain throughout the NWS’s County Watch Area. Travel is still not advised in many areas. Please consult broadcast media and ALDOT for current road conditions BEFORE attempting to travel.
