According to the NWS in Birmingham, a first round of severe storms will be possible through around 9 AM this morning. The main threat will be damaging straight line winds up to 60 mph and hail up to quarter size. A second round of storms is possible this afternoon and evening from around 4 PM through midnight. The main threats continue to be damaging winds of up to 60 mph, with large hail and an isolated tornado possible. Stay tuned for the latest updates.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), severe storms will be possible Friday night into Saturday morning. Elmore County is included in the Marginal Risk area for the threat of severe weather. The main threat will be damaging straight line winds up to 60 mph. Forecast confidence remains low at this time, and exact timing remains unclear. Please monitor the weather as we get closer to the event.

Elmore County in east central Alabama... Central Tallapoosa County in east central Alabama... Northern Montgomery County in south central Alabama... * Until 900 AM CDT Wednesday. * At 254 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Two to three inches of rain are falling on saturated soils. Flash flooding is expected to begin shortly. * Some locations that will experience flooding include... Montgomery, Prattville, Millbrook, Wetumpka, Tallassee, Dadeville, Camp Hill, Elmore, Coosada, Deatsville, Eclectic, Jacksons' Gap, Waverly, Martin Dam, Hyundai Motors Of Alabama, Santuck, Auburn University In Montgomery, Titus, Woodcrest and Ten Cedar Estates. 6:15 p.m. at 5/28/2018 –
Alberto has officially made landfall near Laguna Beach, FL, this evening and will continue to move northward across the state tonight. There have been no major changes to the forecast impacts since this morning by the NWS. Below is a recap of the expected impacts according to the National Weather Service Office in Birmingham.
7:45 a.m. on 5/28/2018 – According to the National Hurricane Center, Subtropical Storm Alberto is forecast to make landfall around 2:00 p.m. this afternoon near Ft. Walton Beach, Florida and will continue traveling north into and through the State of Alabama. Elmore County is now part of a Flash Flood Watch and Wind Advisory. Below are the details issued by the NWS Office in Birmingham.
FLOODING: Elmore County is under a Flash Flood Watch until 7:00 p.m. tomorrow. A Flash Flood Watch has been issued for the eastern half of Central Alabama, including the I-65 corridor. In this area, more than 3 inches of rainfall is expected through Wednesday afternoon, with a swath of 4-6 inches, with locally higher amounts, across much of the Watch area. WIND: Elmore County is under a Wind Advisory until 7:00 a.m. tomorrow. A Wind Advisory has been issued for areas along and southeast of a line from Selma to Clanton to Alex City, for this afternoon through early Tuesday morning. Sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph with higher gusts are possible in this area. Ridge tops in northeast Central Alabama could also have occasional wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph. With saturated ground conditions and additional rainfall expected, weakened trees could be brought down. See graphic below for details.
TORNADO: Isolated tornadoes within tropical rain bands are possible east of I-65 and south of I-20 late this afternoon and tonight.

10:30 a.m. on 5/27/2018 –
According to the NWS Office in Birmingham, Subtropical Storm Alberto is forecast to make landfall tomorrow morning and move north into Alabama. At this point, the primary threat that we will be dealing with in Elmore County is flash flooding with 4 to 6 inches of rainfall forecasted from Sunday evening through Wednesday morning. Wind gusts may reach 30 to 40 mph from Monday afternoon through mid-day Tuesday. Also, there will be a Marginal (low end) tornado threat due to being on the east side of the system as it moves through the area.
