UPDATE 1: Severe Weather Threat for Sunday Night into Monday Morning 4-30 into 5-1

As of 3:00 P.M. Saturday, April 29, 2017

The National Weather Service, Weather Forecast Office in Birmingham, AL has expanded the Risk Area and has changed the timing for severe weather, Sunday afternoon through Monday morning across Central Alabama.

The NWS has placed Elmore County in the Slight Risk area with the primary risk being; damaging winds up to 60 mph, brief tornadoes and hail up to a quarter size. The timing for Elmore County will be from 6:00 P.M. Sunday evening until 10:00 A.M. Monday morning. Below are the most current graphics and the Hazardous Weather Outlook (HWO). Elmore County EMA will be monitoring this situation.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for the counties served by the

National Weather Service office in Birmingham.

.DAY ONE…This Afternoon and Tonight.

Strong gusty winds will continue today. Sustained winds will be 20 to

25 mph with gusts to 35 mph possible. Winds will decrease after

sunset.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN…Sunday through Friday.

There is a threat of severe thunderstorms across all of central

Alabama. Timing is still uncertain due to the potential for more than

one round of storms. The threat will begin as early as 1 PM in

western Central Alabama and could last as late as 10 AM in far

southeast Central Alabama. The threats include damaging winds, brief

tornadoes, and hail.

Gusty winds will also be possible ahead of the storms on Sunday, with

sustained winds of 20 mph and gusts to 35 mph possible.
