Quick Update on Winter Weather conditions for today through tomorrow (1-17 & 18-2018)

Issued at 11:30 a.m., 1/17/2018 –  Elmore County EOC continues to be activated for monitoring winter weather conditions and coordination of resources and information.

Travel conditions remain very hazardous across Elmore County.

All county-maintained roads were deemed impassable around 3:00 a.m. this morning due to the snowfall. Snow accumulations range from 1.5 to 3 inches of snow countywide. The Impassable Travel Advisory was sent out by email earlier this morning. We encourage all to wait until a Resumption of Travel Statement is issued by County officials to resume normal travel. Travel conditions are very hazardous! Travel conditions will be slow to improve due to the bitterly cold temperatures that we will continue to see throughout today. The high temperature will only be around 32 to 33 degrees for a couple of hours this afternoon. County Highway Department crews and ALDOT will both be working to address the problematic areas and bridges that they can. Progress on work to improve road conditions may be limited due to the low temperatures. For specific information on local road conditions please visit our website at www.elmorecoema.com and for state routes please check ALDOT’s traffic information website at https://algotraffic.com/

Travel on U.S. Hwy. 231 in Wetumpka is extremely hazardous in numerous locations.

The following Warming Stations are available for those who may need a place to utilize to warm up for a brief period. These may be used by those who do not have adequate heating available in their homes or by those who are out working in the bitterly cold temperatures and may need a place to warm up for a brief period. If someone needs travel assistance to get to one of these facilities please contact Elmore County EMA.
