MODERATE Risk/Updated Risk For Severe Weather Tonight 1-27-2017

01/21/2017  3:53:38 PM  The Storm Prediction Center has placed Elmore County under a MODERATE Risk for severe weather with all modes of severe weather being possible to include strong tornadoes, damaging winds and large hail. This increase in threat level is an increase from earlier this morning.

Below is the updated Hazardous Weather Outlook (HWO) issued by the NWS and a graphic that shows the updated threat levels and timing of when the threats will likely impact Elmore County.

 THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR THE COUNTIES SERVED BY THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE IN BIRMINGHAM.

 .DAY ONE…OUTLOOK THROUGH TONIGHT.

SEVERE STORMS ARE POSSIBLE TONIGHT ACROSS ALL OF CENTRAL ALABAMA, AS EARLY AS 9PM IN THE SOUTHWEST AND AS LATE AS 6AM IN THE NORTHEAST. ALL MODES OF SEVERE WEATHER ARE POSSIBLE INCLUDING DAMAGING STRAIGHT LINE WINDS, LARGE HAIL, AND TORNADOES. THE HIGHEST THREAT FOR SEVERE STORM IMPACTS IS SOUTH OF A LINE FROM MYRTLEWOOD TO SELMA TO LANETT.

 .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN…SUNDAY THROUGH FRIDAY.

 NO HAZARDOUS WEATHER EXPECTED AT THIS TIME.

 ACTIVATION OF STORM SPOTTERS AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT WILL BE NEEDED TONIGHT AND EARLY SUNDAY MORNING.
