Update on Limited Severe Weather Threat for 2-8-2017 (Tonight-Early AM 2-9-2017)

1:41:43 PM  The National Weather Service (NWS) has made some adjustments to their latest forecast regarding this evening’s limited severe weather threat. The most notable adjustments are changes to the timing and the inclusion of all of Central Alabama in the Limited Threat Area. The hazards associated with this storm system include the possibility of a brief tornado, damaging winds up to 60 mph, and quarter size hail. The timing for possible impact for Elmore County is now expected to be between 8 PM tonight and 1 AM tomorrow morning. Please ensure you have ways to receive severe weather alerts and notifications during the overnight hours!

Minimal Limited Severe Weather Threat 7PM Tonight (2-8-2017) Until 3AM Tomorrow Morning (2-9-2017)

09:38:50   According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Weather Forecast Office in Birmingham there is a minimal limited threat for possible severe storms this evening into the overnight hours for portions of Central Alabama as a cold front pushes through the area. If storms develop, the threats for Elmore County will include damaging winds and large hail. Below is an updated graphic from the NWS that describes the areas that may possibly be impacted.

 

Update #2 on Severe Weather Threat for Elmore County for Today 2-7-17

12:47:50 PM  The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham has released an updated graphic as of 12:13 P.M. today showing the primary severe threat is now just to the south of Elmore County. Isolated flash flooding may be an issue in some areas with poor drainage this afternoon.

 Elmore County EMA will send out another update on tomorrow’s forecast upon the NWS’s update.

Update on the severe weather threat for Elmore County for today 2-7-17 through tomorrow 2-8-17

08:20:35  According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Weather Forecast Office in Birmingham there is a limited threat of severe storms for much of Central Alabama late morning through the afternoon. The threats include damaging winds, large hail, and an isolated tornado. At this time the current timing forecast is from 9 a.m. through 7 p.m. with the primary time for the severe weather being from about 3:00 p.m. to about 6:00 p.m.

There is also a minimal limited threat of severe storms Wednesday afternoon and evening for much of Central Alabama. If storms can develop, the threats will include damaging winds and large hail. They will refine the area and timing as we get closer to the weather event tomorrow.

Limited severe weather threat for Elmore County over the next couple of days (2-6-17 through 2-8-17)

According to the National Weather Service Weather Forecast Office in Birmingham there is a limited threat of severe storms for much of central Alabama Tuesday afternoon through early Tuesday night. The threats include damaging winds, large hail, and an isolated tornado. Current timing forecast is from 12 noon through 8 pm Tuesday.

There is also a limited threat of severe storms Wednesday afternoon and evening across all of Central Alabama. The threats will include damaging winds and large hail. The NWS will refine the area and timing as we get closer to Wednesday.
