Posted at 9:07 p.m. 6/22/17 – The NWS cancelled the Tornado Watch for Elmore County at 9:00 p.m. this evening. A limited/isolated threat persists for brief tornadoes but the threat has diminished according to the NWS. Showers and some thunderstorms will remain in the forecast through the evening hours tomorrow, Friday (6-23-17).

Severe weather threat for Elmore County for tonight (6-22-17) through tomorrow (6-23-17)
According to the National Weather Service WFO in Birmingham, there will be scattered to numerous showers tonight, with a few thunderstorms. Low temperatures will be in the 70’s. There is a marginal to slight risk of tornadoes tonight and there is also a marginal to slight risk of tornadoes and damaging wind gusts Friday into Friday evening. This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for the counties served by the National Weather Service office in Birmingham.
.DAY ONE…Through Tonight.
Flash flooding will be possible mainly west of a line from Gadsden to Clanton To Linden. Many parts of Central Alabama have received 2 to 4 inches of rain in the past day or so, and an additional 2 inches of rain is possible through Friday. Any heavy rain will have the potential of causing flash flooding on the already saturated ground.
This Flash Flood Watch may need to be expanded in time or area at a later time.
There is a threat for brief tornadoes overnight. What is left of Tropical System Cindy was well west and northwest of Central Alabama, but the rain bands associated with this system will still affect the area. All areas in Central Alabama have some potential.
.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN…Friday through Wednesday.
There is a threat for brief tornadoes and isolated damaging wind gusts on Friday. The main window on Friday will be during the afternoon and evening hours as the remnants of Cindy move just northwest of Central Alabama.
A risk of flash flooding will continue Friday. An additional 2 inches is possible through Friday which will have the potential to produce flooding issues. Some threat may extend into Saturday too.
Rainfall the past few days has caused rises on area rivers. The rivers will continue rising but any flooding looks to be minor at this time.

Activation of storm spotters and Emergency Management may be needed now through Saturday due to the multiple threats across the area.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for the counties served by the
National Weather Service office in Birmingham.
.DAY ONE…Today and Tonight.
Widespread rainfall will continue across Central Alabama due to a
tropical air mass in place east of Tropical Storm Cindy. Flash
flooding will be possible mainly along and south of a Hamilton to
Jasper to Wetumpka to Troy line due to rainfall amounts of 2 to 4
inches with locally higher amounts.
There is a threat for brief tornadoes through 7 PM as the center of
Tropical Storm Cindy tracks west of the area. The best chances will
be generally along and west of Interstate 65, however, all areas in
Central Alabama may be impacted.
.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN…Friday through Wednesday.
There is a threat for brief tornadoes and isolated damaging wind
gusts on Friday as well. The main window on Friday will be during
the afternoon and evening hours on Friday across northern portions
of Central Alabama.
A risk of flash flooding will continue Friday, primarily across the
western half of Central Alabama.

Posted at 5:40 p.m. on 6/21/17 – According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Weather Forecast Office in Birmingham the severe weather threat is forecast at this time to stay to our west. There will be a break in the rainfall tonight and the rainfall will resume and remain steady through the day on Thursday. The following is a graphic from the NWS in Birmingham.
